Why am I crossing the satins with germans? I prefer the silky shiny texture of the satin angoras, while I also prefer the amazing wool production of the german angoras. I want a hybrid that can give me both, or close to it. My goals are fiber quality with quantity.
  • Kits that are 50% satin/german crosses all ~carry~ the satin gene recessively.
  • They do not exhibit the characteristic shiney satin texture in their wool as intensly as the purebred satin angoras do.
  • Their wool is much softer in texture than a purebred german because of the recessive satin gene.
  • They will produce about half as much wool as a purebred german angora.
  • They will produce about twice as much wool as a purebred satin angora.
  • Any crossed kit with color showing will have wool that is richer in color when compared to a colored german/french cross angoras and paler in color when compared to a satin angora. Their coloring will be somewhere in between.
  • The wool will hold fast longer and exhibits greater wool length over the purebred satins.
  • Ultimately the goal is to breed back to the satin purebred to get the satin gene to show and to improve the wool length and density overall in the satin angoras, which may be accomplished with the breeding ~in progress~
